Steering Shaft Problem Causes Lexus LX 470 Recall

As Lexus informed, the recall, which the automaker declared for its 2003-2007 LX 470, is not connected with the recall for the Toyota Avalon, though both these recalls are caused by faulty steering components.
According to Lexus, the LX 470 steering shaft was specially designed in such a manner that the shaft snap ring could disengage in case the car’s front wheels get an “unusually severe impact.” The automaker cited deep potholes as a vivid example here. As the representatives of the company revealed to the press, that steering shaft could disengage in course of time, if the ring became disengaged.

General manager of Lexus and group vice president Mark Templin said that their engineers had thoroughly scrutinized that issue and had found out a durable and robust remedy, which would be able to eliminate that condition and protect drivers from being affected by it in the future.

The possible way to fix the issue invented by Lexus is the following: the snap ring will be replaced by a redesigned new snap ring. Moreover, an additional component will be installed, which will prevent the steering shaft separation.

It is known that the notices of the LX 470 recall will start shipping at the end of August
