JLN Stadium is ready and stunning for CWG 2010

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, far exceeds collective expectation. This is despite the disappointing scenes outside of it such as the half hacked trees, broken roads, unattended construction poles, wrought iron gates, the broken slabs of tar and concrete and other such faults in construction.

The inside of the stadium is pleasing to eyes and it matches with the computer generated graphic on the brochure. The stadium has a sea-blue two tier seating arrangement (16,000 lower, 44,000 upper) and it is breath-taking. The synthetic track area is blood re with white ellipsoidal lines that gives the visual vivid depth to the track.

The stadium looks extravagant with many stunning features. the breadth of the surface area of the ground has a 150m tunnel, which is constructed for athletes and performers to arrive and disappear beneath the surface when the opening and closing ceremonies will take place. The stadium is also earthquake proof, and is the world’s largest membrane roof. What remains to be seen is how quickly the scenario outside of the stadium and overall construction of the infrastructure for the games is finished as there has already been too much of delay for the construction.
